Iowa Sheriff

How is it that a couple, whose home has been put up for sheriff sale twice, still live in the house?

I accidentally found out (on a Google search!) that this couple I know had their house listed on sheriff sale twice in the past. I know they still live there and was wondering what exactly happened then? How were they able to save their home?

Public Comments

  1. Maybe they're waiting to be evicted.
  2. Ask them.
  3. They might have redeemed the house, meaning, during the redemption period, they came up with the money to save their home.
  4. The Sheriff is his brother?
  5. The couple paid whatever caused the house to be put up for sheriff's sale in the first place. It could have been for back taxes, it could have been close to foreclosure, it could have been for code enforcement fines due to violations. Check the local civil files for the county. Many places now have them online, if not, go to the courthouse and search for their name or for that specific address in documentation. Or just ask them. But don't expect them to tell you.
  6. It is possible that they were able to come up with the money each time to make the loan good, or they might be holding out, not leaving until someone puts them out.
