Iowa Sheriff

Is the county jail usually the sheriff's office?

The map shows the address as being the street of the court house, where the County Jail is. Is the Sheriff's department usually the county jail as well? Just trying to make sure because I have an interview Tomorrow. I asked him and he said its right by the Court house, my brother, a C.O. for another county said its inside the Jail itself but just looking for reassurance.

  1. it could be... the Sheriff's office could just be in very close proximity to the jail
  2. The Sheriff's department runs the county jails in most places in the US. It's not uncommon for the Sheriff's office to be in the jail, but it could easily be somewhere else, too.
  3. no, but usually they are close to each other, hence in the same county lol
  4. Long time no see. Not necessarily however in my county the sheriffs office is in the house of corrections.
