Iowa Sheriff

can the sheriff office of NH wait outside my school stopping students checking for seat belts?

i showed up to school and there were multible sheriffs waiting directing traffic and looking for people without their seatbelts on. besides that ppl should wear their seatbelts i dont believe in this kind of gov intrusion, this makes me not wanna come to school when they do this. is it legal, it must be but just need cited answers really.

  1. Uh..Click it or ticket?
  2. they can do what ever they want. wear your seat belt and you won't have any probs :)
  3. Yep it's their job dude!
  4. probably, but is that really a big deal seat belts aren't that bad and if they are that bad to you then just put it on and then take it off when you go by the sheriff
  5. Yes they can. They have the legal authority to put up a check point where ever, when ever they want.
  6. That's life. When all the cattle fled my craphole of a state, they all went running up to yours. And now they're turning NH into Taxachusetts North. Suckers!
  7. Well, it's against the law not to wear one.. So I assume so. Wear a seat belt and you have nothing to worry about :)
  8. Completely legal....If they were doing random searches that's when you have a right to complain. But ensuring safety is not intrusion.
  9. It is part of the Click it or ticket campaign. It is perfectly legal :(
  10. so long as it's public property, yes, they can... assuming your school is a public school, not only is it public property, it's government property, so again, yes.
  11. Typically they need a reason other than a seat bealt. Once you are pulled over, they can add that to the fine. Edit: Are they checking the kids or adults? Isn't NH a no seat belt state for anyone over 18? Below: You are correct, in MY state it IS a primary offense...I know this. That is why I was asking about the person who lives in the State of NH. I said "typically", which that is the case. Depending on your department, you have the "un-written" rule of thumb to pull over for a greater offense rather than a seat belt in-fraction. This is, however, changing as you can see throught the US due to the high fatality rate among people in the US for not clicking it. Hope this helps clarify my above statment.
  12. No, they shouldn't be allowed to do this. New Hampshire is the only state in the union that does not have a seatbelt law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt_legislation_in_the_United_States To the person above me, the supposed State Trooper Washington State, you can pull someone over for a seatbelt violation if it is a primary offense in your state. Since you're a Washington State Trooper, and it's a primary offense in your state, I would assume you would know that. What you said only applies if a seatbelt violation is a secondary offense in your state.
  13. Yep and they can lay in wait outside of bars to see if you drive drunk too. At least this way they can protect the kids. Besides it isn't entrapment or trouble if people KNOW they are there and doing it. I kind of like it when the cops are looking out for the welfare of my child, personally.
  14. Seat belts are so simple, save lives and reduce injury's. If it was as simple as you just dieing because you choose to not wear your seat belt then I would say don't wear it but that is not the case. You have people that would be heart broken to loose you and in the case of you being severely injured and needing expensive care for the rest of your life and being a burden to your family or the state.
  15. The police enforce the law everywhere. Your school is not a law-free zone! LOL
  16. Yeah, cause that's what they were doing... They were not in any way shape or form tryng to to catch a druggie. Nope, marijuanana / coke, booze or opium inderdiction is not part of that general plan. Would you rather loose a friend to automotive / dope carnage? Would you rather have the guy sitting next to you who will join the force years from now gunned down on his third day on the job by the drug dealers after he becomes a GAME WARDEN'S DEPUTY? Seriously, what do you want? Write it down. Think about who that policy effects, and how. Then get away, as far as you can from drug abuse and treasonous por-Al Qaida (cause they are dope smugglers dear) murder. Support as well as you can Honest Law Enforcement (yeah, my brother was PD and got shot by the Sheriffs department becaquse there is dishonest police work ~ but what your saying doesn't smell of bad policework).
  17. You asked two different things. One said "stopping" students to check for seat belts. The other said directing traffic and "looking" for people who were violating the law. There is a huge difference. Explain what you saw and then ask again.
  18. Of course it is legal. It's the same basic principal of a DUI checkpoint. This makes you not want to go to school though? Get real dude, just ride the bus if you don't want to be pulled to the side like that. As long as seat belts are a primary violation there they can do this, now if the seat belt was a secondary violation they would need to find something else to stop you over and then add the seat belt violation.
  19. yes
