My husband is on patrol with our sheriff's office-need to get a great GPS system for his car.Suggestions pls?
I'd like to get him the top of the line Navigation system for his patrol car. Do any of you have any great suggestions?

- After looking at several, it appears there is not that much price difference, so I am going to edit my original answer. I like this link because it shows customer ratings. The most expensive are not always the highest rated. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/Search.do?c=1&searchType=user&keyword=gps&searchSection=All&go.x=14&go.y=6 One last consideration.... he may prefer one that can be removed from the dash and carried in hand. This would come in handy if he had to search a wooded area, and needed to mark a spot, or find the fastest way out.
- Yeah, tell the troopers to keep a clean conscience. That will lead them back home safe, and alive.
- That Garman thingy is pretty cool. It will find your location within something like 200 feet and send you directions to addresses, etc. They sell for like $200
- I tend to agree with trooper that you probably won't need a "top of the line," which will do things like store music and photos, etc. I have been very pleased with my Garmin StreetPilot C340, which I believe has been superseded by the StreetPilot C330. It comes with maps of all the US and Canada in it (you can add others). It is available for around $300. I would highly recommend getting the optional dashboard mount, which allows the unit to be moved from car to car. ADD: Checking out troopers amended post, I see that CC is selling the C340, but the Garmin web site http://garmin.com lists it as discontinued. You might want to compare the features of the C340 with the C330, given the lower price of the latter.
- A basic TomTom is probably Good enough. Will do most of the things that you need done and will cost about $200, saving some taxpayer money.
